Senior Dee Lockett has held the State Champion title for the last four years, was named the U17 2023 World Champion, signed to Oklahoma State University to wrestle and named the 6A Outstanding Wrestler at the 2025 State Championship. His journey is far from over. Reporter Aydan Thomas asked him about his accomplishments as a Pioneer and his future.
Q: How did you feel going into the finals match with a good chance to capture history?
A: I was very calm and confident. I trained for moments like these, and knew I would dominate.
Q: When you scored the first point in the match, did you feel excited or did it even phase you?
A: I felt like I had broken the ice and was ready to go score more points.
Q: Why did you sign your head gear and give it to some fans to catch after the match?
A: I love to give back, when I was a kid I looked up to those guys. They were my heroes, and if I ever got something from them, that would have made me so happy, so I just try to give back anytime I can.
Q: What was the driving factor that got you into wrestling?
A: At a young age I found out my dad wrestled, and I was instantly hooked and wanted to try it. Very quickly I figured out how hard it is but have loved it ever since.
Q: Where do you see yourself in the next 5-6 years?
A: I see myself at Oklahoma State University winning national titles with some of my best friends and hopefully have enough money to start a family along the lines.
