Pink out week has a new addition to its daily events that’s bringing even more attention to raising money for cancer research. Car tagging has taken over the Stillwater High School parking lots during this year’s festivities, and it might just turn into a yearly tradition.
During POW, Family and Consumer Sciences students painted certain cars in the parking lots. Prior to the tagging, all SHS students had the opportunity to tag a friend’s or a teacher’s car.
Ally Aguilar, FCCLA member and FACS student, said “I think it helps advertise the Pink Out game to the community, bringing people in and just kind of spreading awareness about cancer.”
This is the first official year for car tagging as a POW event, said Ms. Webber, FACS teacher and FCCLA/POW sponsor. The idea for car tagging came from senior Emalee Gilliland, who is in the FACS leadership class. All of the proceeds from car tagging is going to The Oklahoma Research Foundation, along with the rest of the money raised during POW.
To help clean up everyone’s vehicle, Tommy’s Car Wash hosted a fundraiser with POW the Saturday following the car tagging event
Overall, POW car tagging was a successful event that students will look forward to again.
“I think people enjoy it,” FACS student Chloe Stahler said. “I think it will get a lot bigger.”
