One of the new teachers at Stillwater High School moved more than 750 miles to teach several Family and Consumer Science classes. Ms. Pope moved to Stillwater this summer after teaching 11 years at a High School in El Paso.
Pope teaches several classes at Stillwater High School, including Advanced FACS, Principles of Human Service, Interior Design and Interpersonal Studies. Next semester, she will also be teaching Human Growth and Development.
“I love how friendly everyone is,” Pope said of her move to Stillwater.
Pope has been teaching a total of 16 years. Before she moved here from El Paso, Texas, she was a teacher at Chapin High School. At the same time Pope got a job opportunity in Stillwater, her son got accepted into the Sports Management Marketing program at Oklahoma State University. He is currently a freshman.
Students from Ms. Pope’s class have enjoyed their new teacher.
“My favorite thing about Ms. Pope’s class so far is baking the Pink Out cookies,” said Emma Cantu, a 2nd hour student.
Other students have said they like the atmosphere in her class.
“My favorite thing about Ms. Pope is that she treats everyone equally,” Easton Huckabay said.
Pope said she feels like she was meant to make the move to Stillwater.
“Everything just fell into place,” she said. “I just feel like God opened doors.”
