The Stillwater Boys’ basketball season is coming up soon, and fans will notice some changes in the head coaching position. Coach Sean Morgan, who was the Junior Varsity coach last year, has moved up to head coach after Head Coach Scott Morris moved to the girl’s side.
Looking at the season ahead, Coach Morgan said they will compete every night and try to impose their physicality on opposing teams.
“Our goal for the season is to try and achieve and exceed our standard of excellence every single day,” Coach Morgan said about the team’s goals for this season. “The thing I am most excited for is the opportunity to lead a group of athletes who want to compete for something bigger than themselves.”
Sophomore Bryson Brown was a key player on the team last year as a freshman, playing the 1 or 2 guard.
“My best features are getting to the rim and playing defense,” he said.
Brown said he wants to make it to state and beat Owasso because they won the championship last year. He said he wants to improve his ball handling and jump shots this season.
Junior Ares Willis, who was also a key player last year, plays forward. He said his best features are getting to the ball and finishing at the rim and defense.
“A couple goals as a team would be to have a winning season and get far into the state tournament,” Willis said. “I look forward to playing Choctaw because they have players that I’m friends with, and they’re going to be good.”
He said he wants to improve his jump shot and work together as a team.
Senior Preston Webb is another key player on the team. Webb plays wing and said his best features are shooting the three and being a leader on the team.
“The main goal is obviously a state championship,” Webb said. “One thing we have not done in a while is make it to state, so that is the main goal for us. We have high expectations for ourselves and we just gotta trust each other if we want to win.”
