The SHS swim team recently started their season with a lot of new athletes on the team. The team is excited to see how everyone will do together, with the veterans as well as the new swimmers, Head Coach Anglea Knott said.
The swimmers have been doing off-season training programs starting in August, which consisted of conditioning as well as review of the swim strokes.
“We have seen drops in individual times in multiple events from the first meet on November 2 until last night with our home meet,” Knott said.
Someone who has experienced a lot of time drops as well as personal growth is junior Elias Mendez.
“First three meets I’ve already broken two old school records,” Mendez said. “I think my hard work is why I am so successful right now. I know that if I put in the time and have quality practices, it will translate to the best times.”
Another person who has shown growth is sophomore Lexi Dotter. She is new to the swim team and has enjoyed the team so far.
“First year, so I’m hoping to break a record,” Dotter said. “I will say I have gotten better since starting, considering it’s a new sport to me. The team is so supportive and everyone cheers you on.”
