Excitement filled the air at Stillwater High School as students and staff gathered for a special beam signing, marking a significant milestone in the construction of the new high school building expected to open in 2026.
Held in the school’s current cafeteria, students got the opportunity to leave class and sign their names and write messages on a steel beam that will be incorporated into the new high school building. Students lined up to leave their mark on a piece of history for the high school.
Senior Sallie Hasenmeyer shared her emotions of signing her name on the beam.
“I loved signing the beam and feeling like me and my friend group had a place at the new school, even though we are graduating,” she said.
Senior Molly Middlebrook said signing the beam was special to her and her friends.
“I think that it was a good testament to show how close our school community is,” she said. “Having that unity throughout our school is something very special.”
Stillwater High School Principal Mr. Howell said he was very excited to see the beam being signed by so many students and staff who are a part of SHS.
“It means a lot that this beam will be placed in the new SHS and will honor all of the people who have been vital to the success of our school,” he said.
