Stillwater Pioneer Wrestling is getting ready for an exciting season. This team is extremely talented and has some outstanding individuals, Wrestling Head Coach Ethan Kyle said.
Senior Dee Lockett is looking for his fourth straight state championship, as well as senior Ayden Thomas, who is looking for his third championship in a row.
“We lead from the front with some talented individuals, but right now I feel like we are going to have some state medalists that are not anywhere in the lineup,” Kyle said. “I feel like our depth is there this year, and most of our weight classes are extremely competitive.”
Each wrestler brings a unique skill set and determination that Kyle believes will be good for the team’s success.
Lockett, a powerhouse on and off the mat, showed excitement for the season.
“I am looking forward to trying to win a team state title this year, after losing last year to Edmond North High School,” Lockett said. “I want to continue to push my teammates to be the best versions of themselves.”
Thomas is excited to take on new challenges this year.
“I have learned so much from the older guys, and I am ready to contribute to the team’s success,” Thomas said. “We have a great support system, and that makes all the difference.”
The Pioneers will kick off their season at the Iron Man Tournament on December 8. Kyle said this competitive event will test the team’s determination and set the tone for the rest of the season.
“We have a team that can have a lot of success,” he said. “If we are healthy and wrestling well, then the sky is the limit for our success in the end.”
