Sydney asked several senior band members about their time playing at Stillwater High School. Here is what they had to say.
Ben Wick
Q: What instrument do you play?
A: Mellophone/French horn.
Q: How long have you been in Band?
A: Six years.
Q: Favorite memory of Band?
A: Touring around and all the competitions and inside jokes that we have .
Q: Favorite show you’ve performed?
A: Over the summer, it was with a group called The Blue Knights. The show was called Bust.
Q: Plans after high school?
A: Get my doctorate in music education.
Corbin Silkwood
Q: What instrument do you play?
A: Tuba.
Q: How long have you been in Band?
A: Six years.
Q: Favorite memory of Band?
A: Seeing myself improve.
Q: Favorite show you’ve performed?
A: This one.
Q: Plans after high school?
A: Industrial engineering.
Sanjaya Burton
Q: What instrument do you play?
A: Bass Clarinet.
Q: How long have you been in Band?
A: Seven years.
Q: Favorite memory of Band?
A: This year, the scoring wise, we broke 80, which we haven’t done since like 1980 or something.
Q: Favorite show you’ve performed?
A: I want to say Blue and Cathedrals are really good.
Q: Plans after high school?
A: I plan on going to OSU, majoring in music composition.
Aiden Ray
Q: What instrument do you play?
A: I play the French horn and march the Mellophone.
Q: How long have you been in Band?
A: Six years.
Q: Favorite memory of Band?
A: Probably making finals at the state championship my freshman year.
Q: Favorite show you’ve performed?
A: It’s between this year and my freshman year, which is Blue and Cathedrals. I’d probably pick Cathedrals.
Q: Plans after high school?
A: I plan on going to college to study business.
Richard Martinez
Q: What instrument do you play?
A: Euphonium and the baritone for marching season.
Q: How long have you been in Band?
A: Since 6th grade.
Q: Favorite memory of Band?
A: Either making finals freshman year or our freshman year state championship.
Q: Favorite show you’ve performed?
A: Probably Cathedrals.
Q: Plans after high school?
A: I plan to go to the University of Texas and study Sports management.
David DeFreitas
Q: What instrument do you play?
A: Percussion.
Q: How long have you been in Band?
A: Seven years.
Q: Favorite memory of Band?
A: Probably my senior year.
Q: Favorite show you’ve performed?
A: Bloom.
Q: Plans after high school?
A: I’m going to go to New York and study computer engineering.
Mollie Rackley
Q: What instrument do you play?
A: Trumpet.
Q: How long have you been in Band?
A: Six years.
Q: Favorite memory of Band?
A: Probably whenever I quit after COVID, and so I wasn’t in Band in 8th or 9th grade, and then my director let me back in.
Q: Favorite show you’ve performed?
A: I’m really liking Bloom so far.
Q: Plans after high school?
A: Go to college majoring in early child education with a minor in music, and then I hope I’ll be an elementary music teacher.
Hank Hanrahan

A: Tuba.

A: Seven years.
Q: Favorite memory of Band?
A: It’s this year at Union, we had time to just talk in our section.
Q: Favorite show you’ve performed?
A: It’d be this year. This year’s show is something special.
Q: Plans after high school?
A: I want to become a choir director in high school or college. I don’t know yet, but I’m going to major in music education.

A: That one weekend where we went to a Band competition super early and just did nothing.
