Sophomore Pioneer football player Peyton Campbell broke a school record with four interceptions in one game against Putnam City last week.
Head Coach Chad Cawood said the achievement is extra special because of how hard Campbell has been working.
“That’s cool, anytime anyone can achieve a record, it’s neat and especially a guy that’s putting in the work,” Cawood said.
Campbell grew up training in the quarterback position, but he made the switch to free safety just this year. The switch was a better fit for the team and allowed Campbell to get more playing time in varsity games.
“It was an easier way to start on varsity and get more varsity game time,” Campbell said.
Campbell credits his success to the work he is putting into practice every day.
“Just working out every day, last year, and this school year, lifting every day before school and stuff like that,” he said.
The record is impressive, but Campbell stresses he could not have achieved this without the help of his team and everyone doing their jobs just as well.
“The D-line and the linebackers had hits on the quarterback and other corners were guarding their guys,” he said of his teammates.
Campbell’s new Stillwater High School record will stand in the books for a while, unless he beats his own record while he finishes out his high school career.
“It feels good because I’m still only a sophomore and my first year starting on varsity,” Campbell said.
