Five Senior Pioneer football players were awarded with the District Players of the Year. Brodey Long won Special Teams Player of the District, Mason Shubert won Offensive Player of the District, Cord Nelson won Offensive Lineman of the District, Judah Schwoegler won Defensive Lineman of the District and Athan Nickels won the Defensive Player of the District.
Head Coach Chad Cawood said it was a pleasure to coach the group of boys, and he loves their desire to be good. He said this is a great group of kids from the locker room to the field, and most importantly in the classroom.
“These kids work as hard as anyone,” Cawood said.
Brodey Long joined the football team his junior year after not playing for a while. He was able to win this award with his competitive nature and consistency. He said it was easy to rejoin the football team because of the culture of the program.
“It took discipline in the weight room, and the kitchen,” Long said.
Schubert moved from Morrison to Stillwater his senior year. He wasted no time before he started to show his talent. Mason said his favorite play of the season was his 2-point conversion against Tulsa Union.
“It was a run pass option play, and the gap for the running back was filled, so I ran,” Schubert said.
Schubert added that it was a unique award to win.
“It felt amazing,” he said.
