The Pioneer Boys Soccer team is hoping to accomplish a lot this season. Head Coach Seth Condley said they hope to win the Stillwater Cup, since it is their home tournament, and focus on making the playoffs.
“Your season is broken up into three different parts: Preseason, regular season and postseason,” Condley said. “You want to win preseason, you want to win your regular season, and if you take care of that, you will be in the playoffs.”
Condley also said you’re only as good as your top level players, and that’s your captains. Condley said this year’s captains are Brodey Long, Diego Ortega, Colt Campbell and Graham Condley.
“Those are your four guys, and they have to be your leaders. If they don’t get it done, you won’t have a very good season,” he said.
Senior Diego Ortega is looking forward to making the playoffs and having a memorable senior season. He said he’s looking forward to Senior Night against Tulsa Union because the Pioneers have never lost to them during his high school career.
“I’m looking forward to getting revenge on some big teams,” said Ortega, who said his personal goals for the season include breaking the current in-season goals scored of 23, set by alumni Bryson Reed.
Senior Brodey Long is looking forward to playing his last high school season with his team, some of which he has played with for a long time. The game he is looking forward to the most is Senior Night against Tulsa Union because it will be his last home game at Pioneer Stadium.
“My goal for the season is to be the leading goal scorer,” Long said.
