With the new golf season looming, players and coaches alike are more excited than ever to see Stillwater High take the first tee. A mix of returning players and fresh faces will equip the Pioneers for success on the course.
For junior Jack Berger, who has been playing golf for four years, this season is about more than just competition—it’s about friendship and community.
“I’m looking forward to playing with my friend Ethan,” he said, crediting former and current teammates Jagger Coulson and Ethan Dudgeon for getting him into the sport of golf.
It’s a similar story for junior Tristan Parks, entering this season with three years under his belt. Parks has winning on his mind.
What does he say when asked what he’s most looking forward to? “Winning.”
Parks took up the sport thanks to friend and teammate Ethan Dudgeon and has amassed plenty of good times.
Senior Jackson Bays, a six-year golf veteran, is hoping to make it to regionals and state this year. The sport has been in his life since his dad and grandpa got him into it. Some of his favorite memories include the Texas trip from last year because his team got to stay in a hotel and it was something all of them shared.
This year’s team is under the tutelage of head coach Randy Patzkowski. Bringing with him experience in college and high school football, Patzkowski brings his style of leadership to the links as he emphasizes player development and winning.
“Coaching is still coaching—it’s about building relationships, regardless of the sport,” he said.
Couple that similar determination with a motivated team and a season full of possibilities, and the Pioneers are off to make their mark on the course. Watch them strive toward their goals in their chase for success.
