Stillwater Pioneer Soccer won a 3-1 comeback game against Choctaw in a windy and cold home opener on Tuesday.
The Pioneers were down 1-0 at halftime before junior captain Graham Condley scored three straight goals in the second half to give the pioneers their first win of the season.
“Obviously last night was the first game, so getting the win and starting the season off right is important,” Condley said. He also said this is only his second hat trick of his high school career.
This is the Pioneers second win in a row, including preseason games, and they are looking to stay focused and win many more games. Senior captain Brodey Long said the team made some mistakes but played great
“We focused on fixing simple mistakes, and we built off what we do well in each game,” Long said.
Even though the Pioneers were down at halftime, Condley said that they felt comfortable because they have been in this position many times.
“We have been in that position before, so we know we have to stay completely focused and intense,” Condley said.
He went on to say that it takes leadership from everyone on the team.
“As a captain, it is my job to set that example and get everyone going,” he said.
This team has big goals for the season. Long said his eyes are set on State.
“The goals I have for the season are winning State and to be the leading scorer on the team,” Long said.
The Pioneers next game is on Friday at Pioneer Stadium at 8 p.m. against.Edmond Memorial.
