Stillwater Pom made school history at UDA Nationals in Orlando by medaling for the first time. The team placed third in the nation in small D2 hip-hop.
Not only did they medal for the first time at Nationals, but they also improved their scores each time from prelims to finals. Improving by one point each time, their finals scores concluded with: Prelims: 87.6, Semis: 90.7167 and Finals: 91.6.
Not only does this outstanding accomplishment of hard work and dedication count for the Pom team, but it also counts for their program and the future of the girls to come after them, Pom Senior Dacee Fix said.
“To the program, I think this accomplishment is not only record breaking, but it is a new name for Stillwater Pom,” Fix said. “Being third in the nation is something not many teams ever achieve, and I am so excited for our team to be looked up to and respected.”.
Pom Coach Rachel Wilson said that during the team’s time at the competition held at Disneyworld, they continued preparations to ensure the medal would be theirs and exemplified true passion and skill in early mornings as well as late nights.
“The coaching staff would analyze the scoresheets and the categories where we needed to improve our score, and the team would work until the early morning to correct areas of improvement,” Wilson said. “Most nights at Disney, the team did not sleep for more than five or six hours. The trip was filled with incredibly late nights and early, early mornings. Our remarkable finish made these sacrifices so worth it.”
In making this history, the Pom Squad hopes this spark will ignite many more achievements to come, according to Pom Senior Co-Captain Scotlynn Doty.
“This victory isn’t just a moment to celebrate—it’s a reminder of the hard work it takes to succeed and the motivation to keep,” Doty said.
