Seventeen choir students from Stillwater High School were admitted into the All-District Honor Choir program after participating in the ECOCDA District Choir Concert on October 7 at Rose State College.
This is a particularly big accomplishment because the Pioneers performed music at some of the highest levels with students from all over the district, Choir teacher Ms. Raines said.
Choir students were given three pieces of music that are high quality and advanced. Some of the music was in a foreign language to challenge them.
“It’s a completely blind audition,” choir teacher Ms. Raines said. “They sing two one-minute cuts, and they don’t find out their cuts until the day before.”
Once the audition process is over, the judges, who are other choir directors from around the state, score them. The top 25 singers on each of the parts are then selected to move on to the choir.
Sophomore Ella Clark said getting ready for the concert is a lot of fun.
“We get to meet new people, and the process just builds up to this really special moment,” Clark said.
To prepare, students worked outside of school to perfect their music and voices for the judges, senior Hank Hanrahan said.
“If you’re prepared, you have nothing to worry about,” he said. “If you have done all you can do, why worry?”
