The hustling and bustling portable classroom at Stillwater High School has been filled recently with excited and dedicated students.
This year’s SMAC decs have already been underway for over a month now. SMAC students meet every Tuesday and Thursday during lunch and every other Sunday from 2-4 p.m. On average, these students are meeting four hours every week.
Junior SMAC Exec Halleigh Brown said SMAC allows people to see their hard work pay off.
“To me SMAC means showing people that if you really work at your ideas, they can become this really big thing that a lot of people will get to see and admire,” Brown said.
Decs is a part of SMAC that is in charge of all the decorations that are to be made for the school’s SMAC Week in the Spring. These decorations have to be handmade, which includes painting, cutting and even welding if the decoration requires.
Teacher Advisor Ms. Eck said her first SMAC year as a teacher at SHS was Disney-themed.
“It was mind boggling and so overwhelming that kids put so much work and effort into SMAC decs,” Eck said.
Every SHS student and staff member has been a part of SMAC Decs in some way, from working meticulously on the details of each exciting decoration, to just admiring the Decs as they walk down the hallways of the school.
With this year’s SMAC Decs already underway, students and staff are encouraged to get hyped for SMAC Week coming this Spring.
