SZA is an alternative R&B and neo soul artist. SZA started her career with an album called “See.SZA.Run,” which was released on October 29, 2012. “Z” was SZA’s third album, and it was released on April 9, 2014. The album was praised by critics because of its lyrical content and SZA’s vocals.
“Z” is an extended play that consists of 10 songs. It features Chance the Rapper, Isaiah Rashad and Kendrick Lamar. The album was written by SZA herself, which is rare to see in the music industry. The album debuted on the US Billboard 200 at number 39. It peaked at number 9 on the Hip Hop and R&B charts. It sold 6,980 copies in its opening week. The album sold over 26,000 copies in the USA. The top songs on the album are “Child’s Play,” “Warm Winds” and “Green Mile.”
“Z” is my favorite album by SZA. The songs are unique, and it’s a lot more different than her newer songs. The album gives an indie vibe, which I like. I’m a big fan of songs that have echoing vocals in the background, and the album uses that technique a lot. Some of the songs on the album are emotional and slow, while other songs on the album are upbeat and energetic. “Sweet November” is the song I have listened to the most because I like how slow the song is. The song talks about past experiences, which I personally find interesting. “Julia” is another of my favorites because of its upbeat tunes. The vocals in the song sound very good as well.
I rate “Z” a 10/10. I would recommend this album to anyone who likes alternative R&B and neo soul.
