Three members of the SHS baseball team recently committed to go play at the next level in college. Isaiah Smith and Jake Lees signed to play at Northern Oklahoma College in Enid, while Michael Perry signed to play at Oklahoma Panhandle State University.
Smith, who has played since 3 years old, said committing is a dream come true.
“It’s a dream come true and means the world to me because it’s one step closer to the end goal,” Smith said.
Smith said he looks up to his older brother and Bligh Madris, who is the first Major League Baseball Player to come from the island where his family is from.
Lees has been around baseball his whole life because of his dad, who is the Stillwater Head Baseball Coach.
Lees committed on August 29 and said the process was pretty easy.
“NOC was the only school I took a visit to, and once I met the coaches and was around the team I realized I wanted to go there, so I committed that day,” Lees said.
Perry, who has also played since he was 3 years old, said it meant everything to him to commit.
“It meant everything to me to commit because I felt like I’ve been working towards this my entire life,” Perry said.
Perry said he looks up to his parents because they push him to be better every day.
Coach Jeff Ventris, who is theSHS Baseball Assistant Head Coach, said that he can’t say enough great things about all three kids.
“They are great players, and more importantly they are great young men on and off the field,” Ventris said.
Coach Ventris said having these athletes commit to play in college is an example of the baseball program.
“It shows the level of quality kids we have and the commitment from our program to find somewhere for them to play after high school,” he said.
