With the start of the spring soccer season quickly approaching, the Stillwater Pioneers girl’s soccer team is gearing up for what promises to be an exciting and competitive year.
The team is coming off a strong season in 2024 when they finished with an 8-6 record, marking their first winning season since 2019. They also achieved a historic victory by claiming the Stillwater Cup for the first time in school history. However, despite their successes, the team narrowly missed the playoffs by one game.
This year, they’re determined to take things to the next level.
Key players are setting goals and looking forward to pivotal matchups. Senior Captain Karson Cox highlighted the game to look forward to as the Ponca City game.
“I know many girls, and it’s fun to play against them,” Cox said.
When asked about her goals for the season, she said, “To make the playoffs for the first time in a long time and try and win all our games.”
Senior captain Allie Luckett echoed similar attitudes, expressing enthusiasm for the same matchup.
“I’m looking forward to the game against Ponca,” she said.
Luckett is focused on both personal and team growth this season.
“My goals for the season are to go to playoffs and have fun,” she said. “My mindset going into the season is to play my best and be a leader for the team.”
Head Coach Tanner Rivera is also optimistic about the team’s potential this season.
“My mindset going into the season is for the team to commit to excellence by training at a high level and, as a result, playing at a high level,” he said.
Reflecting on last year’s performance, Coach Rivero praised the team’s achievements.
“The team did great last year,” Rivera said. “We finished with a record of 8-6, which was the first winning record since 2019. In addition, we won the Stillwater Cup for the first time in school history. We missed the playoffs by one game, even though we had a better record than other teams that did make playoffs due to our district having four 6A-I schools.”
Coach Rivero plans to push the team to new heights to build on last year’s foundation.
“To improve from last year, we are going to be more intentional with our training sessions and elevate each other to make the team the best we can be.”
With a renewed focus on excellence, a roster full of determined players and a coach committed to growth, the Stillwater Pioneers girl’s soccer team has their sights firmly set on making the playoffs for the first time in years. Fans can expect a season filled with passion, effort and excitement as the team works to turn their goals into reality.
