A married couple who both teach English at Stillwater high school spread positivity one dozen eggs at a time.
Mr. and Ms. Barney have been selling their cage-free eggs last year to their coworkers. After moving into their house, with a prebuilt coop, they decided they might as well buy some
chickens.
chickens.
“When they started laying eggs, I realized there was way more eggs then we could eat,“ Ms. Barney said about her chickens, one of which famously hitched a ride to school on the back of their flatbed truck and wasn’t caught for a couple days.
Ms. Eck, high school science teacher and one of their top customers, prefers them over store-bought eggs.
“They have a very rich color and taste different from store-bought,” Eck said.
As well as possibly expanding their farm, Ms. Barney plans on getting more chickens in the future.
“I currently have 15 chickens but want to buy more,” Ms. Barney said.
The couple met in high school in a journalism class, as Mr. Barney was the student editor and Ms. Barney was a student reporter. They have taught together at multiple schools and finally reunited this year when Ms. Barney switched from Stillwater Junior High to SHS.
They believe teaching at the same school comes with its pros and cons.
“I can’t wait for him to have the kids I had this year because I think it will be hilarious,” she said.
