In an effort to raise awareness and support cancer research, Stillwater High School hosted its annual Pink Out Week, which took place September 23-27 with many events and activities for students.
This series of events is designed to educate students about the impact of cancer and encourage community involvement, POW sponsor Ms. Webber said. Students, staff and local businesses united to promote cancer awareness and honor those affected by the disease.
Throughout the week, students and staff participated in dress-up days to show their support for cancer survivors and those currently battling the illness.
Of course it wouldn’t be POW without cookie sales every hour each day. FACS students from Webber’s and Ms. Pope’s classes delivered warm, fresh-from-the-oven cookies to classes to raise money, with all proceeds going to local cancer research.
The highlight of the week was the annual Pink Out football game on Friday night.
“I like seeing all the students in the student section in their attire costumes,” Ms. Webber said.
The game featured special POW activities, including a silent auction and a halftime ceremony honoring those affected by cancer. This year’s honorary recipient was Stillwater Middle school teacher and coach Justin Mills.
