Stillwater Pom is competing in UDA Nationals for small D2 Pom and Hiphop this week in Orlando, Florida.
After redeeming their state champion title in 6A small hiphop at Pom State in December, Stillwater Pom has set their sights high on making history by getting both categories into the top 10 at nationals.
“We had set a goal to get both of our dances into the top 10, because Stillwater Pom has never done that,” Pom Junior Timber Essary said.
Pom has been prepping in many ways and at many opportunities for months to perfect their performances.
“Any morning, afternoon or free weekend the girls have had, has been spent focusing on these routines,” Pom Coach Rachel Wilson said. “Preparations don’t stop when we get to Disney. We rent a space for the girls throughout the week to practice onsite.”
Though they leave on Tuesday, they plan to compete in the preliminaries on Friday, semi-finals on Saturday and the finals on Sunday.
The Pom team also plans to attend Disney World as their final destination of their hard-worked and earned season, but not without the reward of hard work.
“We have so much fun as a team,” Wilson said. “Even though the trip is not one where we get to go to the parks every day, we see it as a business trip. We play hard when it’s done, but we work even harder in the meantime.”
With nine graduating seniors experiencing this for the last time with their team, they plan to make many memories. This last nationals is sparking a bittersweet feeling for the seniors, while also setting a goal for themselves to push themselves to the very best they can, Senior Pom Captain Kamdyn Reese said.
“It’s a bittersweet feeling getting to dance with my bestfriends one last time in the most fun environment,” Reese said. “Knowing this is our last run, we want to push ourselves to be our very best.”
