There are 55 senior students who are graduating early in December according to the guidance counselors.
Guidance Counselor Riann Swanson said the number of early grad students is fairly average from previous years.
“We currently have 55 students scheduled to early grad, and I would say that is kind of typical,” Swanson said. “It varies a little by year, but that would be fairly average.”
Swanson also mentioned that working is the most common reason students decide to graduate early.
“Many students want to early grad in order to be able to work more before they go to college, so that is the most common thing that we hear,” Swanson said.
Early graduate Senior Julian Jacobs said he chose the option of graduating early so he can get out of school and make money.
“I get the opportunity to get out of school, and I don’t want to go to school anymore, so I get to chill at home and make some money,” Jacobs said.
Jacobs also stated that he would recommend other students who are considering graduating early to move forward with it because he believes it’s worth it.
“They should do it,” he said. “It is a ticket to get out of school.”
Swanson, however, mentioned that she believes most students should stay in school, mainly for concurrent options.
“I think that it’s beneficial for most students to remain in school if they’re college bound; they could possibly do concurrent enrollment,” she said. “If a student has a specific plan they want to follow, then it’s a good option.”
