The Pioneer Cross Country teams are off to a great start, with Regionals coming up next week.
Head Coach Paul Grant is looking forward to the rest of this cross-country season and said he is pleased with how the teams have performed so far.
“Our season has been going very well so far,” Grant said. “We are competing at a remarkably high level against other 6A schools. So far this year, Mez Barth and Gabija Pukstas have placed first multiple times.”
All of the runners bring a specific skill to the team that Grant believes will bring many exciting opportunities.
Senior Angel Bautista Herrera thinks this season has gone well and is excited about Regionals next week.
“This season we have done fairly good,” Herrera said. “We’ve had a lot of [personal records] this season. A lot of our varsity guys are getting faster.”
As far as how his final Cross Country season has gone, Herrera said he is pleased.
“I have PR’d a few times,” he said. “My best meet was Edmond Santa Fe, I got a 20:43.”
No matter what happens in a meet, Coach Grant enjoys watching his athletes find success.
“[I enjoy] seeing that their work in practice translates into faster times during competition,” he said.
