Wicked is the latest installment in the Wizard of Oz franchise and is also an adaptation of the Broadway musical by the same name. This movie follows Elphaba, played by Cynthia Erivo, and Galinda, played by Ariana Grande, as they become really good friends while experiencing some major struggles during their school years.
The movie is really enjoyable. The film includes many great musical numbers and has very entertaining characters. The movie’s cast does a great job of representing the characters from the musical. Every actor pulls off a great performance with acting and singing. Cynthia Erivo especially sings gratefully at the climax of the movie.
The set design is very well done. The world looks like it belongs in the “Wizard of Oz” world. The movie manages to be very faithful to the musical. It does not alter any major plot points and really just expands on characters, their backstories, and their relationships.
The main complaint I had with this movie is that some scenes felt a little unnecessary and were just there to stretch the run time. But, the movie is able to make up for that with everything else.
Although some kids might find the movie too long, I see other people really enjoying this movie. I highly recommend this movie and I am very excited for Part Two coming out next year.
