Three-star defensive lineman from SHS, senior Nehemiah Kolone, committed to Brigham Young University during summer break.
Kolone received 12 Division l offers, but he chose BYU because of the environment.
“It’s the best school for me,” he said. “It has a great culture and coaching staff, and they’re doing well in the Big 12, so it seemed like the obvious choice to me.”
SHS Head Defensive Line Coach Derek Anderson was also very happy for Kolone and his decision to play at BYU.
“I think it’s awesome, it’s a good place and suits him well,” he said. “Most people there have the same beliefs as him, too, so BYU is perfect for him.”
SHS Head Coach Chad Cawood also spoke very highly of Kolone and his role on the team.
“He’s a quiet leader and is having a great year,” Cawood said.
Football isn’t the only sport that Kolone has played. Kolone also placed 4th at state in shot put in track and field. He also has played basketball.
And for Kolone, athletics isn’t his only strong suit. He plays three instruments–ukulele, guitar and piano. He also scored a 30 on his ACT and has a 4.0 GPA.
Kolone said he’s excited about playing for the Cougars.
“I am excited to try and compete for playing time and show my skill,” Kolone said.
