Stillwater Varsity Cheer advanced to state after competing at the OSSAA Cheer Regionals at Edmond North.
Head Coach Lauren Duhon was very proud of the outcome.
“I was extremely proud,” Duhon said. “Knowing that this goal was something this program has strived to achieve for many years, and that these athletes were able to achieve that goal, was inspiring.”
Suffering from injuries a week before, they eventually pulled through and reached their goal.
“The week before regionals, we suffered injuries and had to make entire routine changes,” Duhon said. “These athletes took all those setbacks and decided that nothing was going to stop them from achieving their goals.”
Sophomore Mallary Smith went into state for the first time on this team with confidence and positivity.
“It was cool,” Smith said. “I wasn’t really nervous because I just had confidence in our team.”
