A foreign exchange student from Spain has made a temporary home in the halls of Stillwater High School.
Sophomore Olivia Fenelli loves all aspects of her experience here so far, including the school, the people, the fast food and the sports.
“I actually like everything in America, and it’s been so fun,” Fenelli said.
Fenelli is staying with Leila Ferrell and her family through the end of the school year as part of the International Student Exchange Program. Ferrell said it took some getting used to before they felt like family.
“After that we were like sisters,” Ferrell said.
One thing on Fenelli’s to-do list before going home? Trying new things.
“Ski, see other sports, see wrestling,” Fenelli said. “I’ve never seen wrestling in my life.”
Ferrell wishes to show Fenelli around the U.S. for the full American experience.
“I really want to go on vacation, road trip, and show her the United States,” Ferrell said. “I really want to do that.”
Both Ferrell and Fenelli share that being a foreign exchange student and hosting one is an amazing experience that they don’t want to end.
“I think everyone should be a foreign exchange family,” Ferrell said. “It’s super fun.”
Ferrell encourages her younger sister to host an exchange student when she is older.
“I feel like I just love Oliva so much, so I don’t think i could to it again, but I think my sister should have one her ages when she is older,” she said.
