The Lady Pioneers are headed to State after a thrilling come-from-behind 7-5 win in extra innings over Broken Arrow at Couch Park.
Stillwater was down 5-4 in the bottom of the 8th inning with two runners on when freshman Michelle Kolone hit a home run that gave the Lady Pioneers the victory.
Sophomore Landen Warner, who had one hit in the game, said the win feels amazing because the team has worked so hard to get to this point.
“We are resilient and never gave up,” Warner said.
The momentum shifted in the bottom of the 6th inning when Stillwater was down 4-2 and Junior Calle Cox hit a 2-run homer to tie the game. After a scoreless 7th inning, the Lady Pioneers gave up one run in the top of the 8th. Going into the bottom of the 8th inning down 5-4, Stillwater managed to get a couple runners on before Kolone hit the game-winning home run. The team celebrated on the field after Kolone made her way around the bases, with students running from the stands to join them.
Senior Brittani Murray pitched all eight innings in the Regional game and struck out four Broken Arrow hitters.
“I’m excited because we haven’t been since freshman year and it’s one of the most exciting things you can do,” Murray said.
Next up for Stillwater: STATE.
