Stillwater’s Special Olympians competed in a corn hole tournament on April 7 at Pioneer stadium.
Karrie Linsenmeyer, SHS special Olympics coach, has been a part of the program for more than 20 years. Linsenmeyer said it helps the kids in more ways than one.
“I not only think it helps the kids, but I think it helps the volunteers as well, It teaches young adults how to be patient,” she said.
Linsenmeyer also said the events have a positive impact on all students involved.
“Kids that are difficult in the classroom become more controlled, and the volunteers become less selfish,” she said.
Volunteer Cayden Brandes is involved with the special olympics team.
“I have been involved since 7th grade,” Brandes said. “I have been to many cheer events and cornhole.”
Senior Bonnie Rutherford participates in swimming, cheer, and corn hole.
“I make new friends and get to do fun stuff,” she said.
